ABOUT ABOUT

Jonathan Katz is coming to The Riot Theater for one night and two shows only to do Jonathan Katz Presents. The show will feature standup from Jonathan himself as well as a segment of Dr. Katz Live with patients Val Kappa and Ken Reid from the Boston Comedy Scene.

Perhaps best known for his work on Comedy Central’s Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist, actor, writer, producer, Katz’s career in comedy began years before the inception of Dr. Katz. As the front man and composer of the band Katz and Jammers (1980-1981), Katz noticed that when he sang people talked but when he talked the audience tuned in and would occasionally laugh at the things he said. In 1984, the producer of The Late Show with David Letterman asked Katz if he would be willing to put his guitar aside and make an appearance on the show. Subsequently, he has made nine appearances with Letterman, two with Johnny Carson, seven with Conan O’Brien and has headlined clubs all over the country.

Katz still works as a standup, but even more often he lends his voice to animated projects. He continues working with his longtime friend and collaborator Tom Snyder and his friend and first “patient,” Bill Braudis. Later this year, he will be publishing a book titled “The Home For Unfortunate Animals,” written by Katz and friend and collaborator since college, playwright David Mamet.
